Unlimited Revisions, Zero Stress: How Our Preview Process Actually Works

The single biggest anxiety people have about ordering a custom pet portrait — bigger than style choice, bigger than size, bigger than price — is a quiet fear that sits somewhere in the back of the mind: what if it doesn’t look like my pet?

It’s a fair thing to worry about. You’re uploading a photo of an animal you love, asking someone to transform it into art, and waiting to find out if the result actually captures what you see when you look at them. That’s a real leap of trust.

This is exactly why we built our process the way we did. Here’s how it works — every step, no glossing over the details.

Unlimited Revisions, Zero Stress: How Our Preview Process Actually Works

Step One: You Upload the Photo

Everything starts with a photo. You choose one, upload it, and select your style and size. That’s the extent of what you need to do upfront.

A few things that help at this stage:

Good lighting matters more than a good camera. A photo taken in natural daylight near a window, with your pet’s face clearly visible, gives us far more to work with than a technically “higher resolution” photo taken in dim indoor light with a flash. Phone cameras are completely fine — most of our portraits are made from iPhone photos.

Front-facing or three-quarter angles work best for most styles. We need to see your pet’s eyes and facial features clearly to render an accurate likeness. A profile shot can work, but it limits what we can capture.

You don’t need a perfect photo. We work with older photos, slightly blurry photos, photos where your pet is mid-motion. What we need is enough information about their features to work from. If you’re unsure whether a specific photo will work, we’d rather you send it and let us take a look than talk yourself out of ordering entirely.

Step Two: We Create Your Portrait (2–3 Business Days)

Once your order is placed, our team gets to work rendering your portrait in the style you chose.

This is where the actual work happens — and it’s worth being clear about what “rendering” means in practice. This isn’t a filter applied automatically to your photo. Your pet’s specific features — their eye shape, the markings on their coat, the particular set of their mouth, the exact proportions of their face — are translated deliberately into the chosen style. The goal isn’t a stylized version of a generic dog or cat. It’s a stylized version of your specific dog or cat.

Within 2–3 business days, you’ll receive a digital preview by email. This is the full portrait, in the exact dimensions and style you ordered, rendered at print quality. You’re seeing what would go on your wall — not a rough sketch, not a thumbnail, not an approximation.

Step Three: You Review the Preview

This is the part that matters most, and the part we want you to take seriously.

Look at the preview the same way you’d look at the finished piece on your wall. Ask yourself:

  • Does this look like my pet? Not “a dog” or “a cat” — my dog, my cat. Their specific face, their expression, the thing about them that makes them them.
  • Is there anything that feels off? An ear that sits wrong, a color that doesn’t match, an expression that’s close but not quite right.
  • Does the style feel like what I expected?

If the answer to all three is yes — perfect. You approve it and we move to print.

If anything needs adjusting, that’s what revisions are for.

Step Four: Revisions — As Many as You Need

Here’s the part we want to be completely clear about: revisions are unlimited, and they’re always free.

We won’t print your portrait until you’re genuinely happy with it. Not “satisfied enough” — happy. There’s no limit on the number of revision rounds, no additional charge per change, no fine print that defines a “reasonable” number of requests before we push back.

If the first preview is perfect, great — we move straight to print. If you need five rounds of adjustments before it looks exactly right, that’s fine too. The goal is a portrait you’ll want to hang and keep, and we’d rather take the time upfront than deliver something that ends up in a drawer.

What kinds of revisions can you request?

Virtually anything that affects the portrait itself:

  • “The eyes don’t look quite right — can we make them a bit wider?”
  • “Her fur is more golden than this, can we warm the tone?”
  • “The ears are sitting differently than they do in real life”
  • “Can we try this with a slightly lighter background?”
  • “I’d like to see this in the Sleek Line Art style instead”

We ask only one thing: be specific. “I don’t love it” is harder to act on than “the left ear is too small.” The more precisely you can describe what feels off, the faster and more accurately we can fix it.

Step Five: You Approve, We Print

Once you’ve confirmed the preview — a simple reply to confirm, nothing more complicated than that — we send your portrait to print.

We use museum-grade canvas with fade-resistant ink, the same quality standard for every order regardless of size. The print arrives frameless, ready for you to pair with a frame of your choice or hang directly using poster strips or mounting hardware.

From approval to delivery, shipping timelines vary by location, but we offer free worldwide shipping on all orders over $50 — which covers every size above the 8″ x 10″.

What If I’m Not Happy After It Arrives?

It’s rare — because the entire preview process exists to make sure you know exactly what you’re getting before we commit it to canvas — but if something about the physical print genuinely doesn’t match what you approved in the preview, we want to know. Reach out, tell us what doesn’t match, and we’ll make it right.

The preview process is our quality guarantee. It means that by the time the portrait ships, it’s already been through at least one round of human review, has your personal approval on the image, and has been printed specifically to match what you signed off on. That’s a very different situation from ordering blind and hoping for the best.

Why We Do It This Way

The print-first model is standard in a lot of the industry because it’s faster and cheaper to operate. Print immediately, handle complaints reactively, offer partial refunds when things go wrong.

We’ve chosen a different model because we think it’s the right one — not just for customer satisfaction, but for the product itself. A portrait you’ve seen and approved in advance is a portrait you’ll be excited to hang. A portrait that shows up and surprises you — not always in a good way — is a portrait that might make you feel like the whole thing wasn’t worth it.

The preview process costs us time on every single order. We think it’s worth it.

A Few Things People Often Ask

Can I change the style during the revision process? Yes. If the preview makes you realize you’d rather see your pet in a different style, we can accommodate that.

How do I receive the preview? By email, typically within 2–3 business days of placing your order.

What if my pet passed away and I only have a few older photos to work from? This is one of the most common situations we work with, and we handle it carefully. Older photos, lower-resolution scans, even photos where your pet is partially visible — we’ll tell you honestly what’s workable and what the result will look like before anything goes to print.

Is there really no limit on revisions? Genuinely, no. The only thing we ask is that revision requests are specific and good-faith. If something doesn’t look right, tell us what it is and we’ll fix it.
